From Duino to Hollywood: a story born on Kepown looks to the big screen
The legend of the White Lady of Duino Castle could soon reach the international big screen. According to Rai News and ANSA, film producer Gary Marenzi — for years a leading executive at Paramount and MGM, involved in productions such as James Bond and Star Trek — is reportedly considering bringing to film a story by Elisabetta De Dominis, inspired by the celebrated Trieste legend. Among the ideas under discussion are a budget kept under five million dollars, filming on location in Friuli Venezia Giulia, and even Zendaya's name for the lead role.
The story originated within "Bella da morire," the literary competition dedicated to the theme of femicide, inspired by the figure of the White Lady: according to legend, Esterina da Portole was thrown from the castle's cliff by her husband, Federico da Ritisperga, out of jealousy, and turned to stone as she fell.
A story that, from autobiographical writing to the cliffs of Duino, shows how far a narrative can travel — all the way to catching the attention of the international film industry.
